The first person or better said the first artist that singing here in the amphitheater of Altos De Chavon was Frank Sinatra along with Carlos Santana who made the opening concert.

They have also sung artists such as Julio Iglesias, Juan Luis Guerra, Marc Anthony, and famous singers and bands of merengue, salsa and bachata have acted in this place. Altos de Chavon accounts with the school of art and design of greater prestige of the Caribbean, this school of design has an affiliation with Parsons School of Design in New York which gives greater preparation to graduates of this. History of La Romana 


    The city of La Romana was founded in 1897, when he was granted a concession to a Cuban signature by the National Congress to establish an oil refinery, In its origins, The Roman was a city decadent and without a future for its inhabitants.  This changed from the year 1917 thanks to the construction of a great mill owned by Italian emigrants from the region of Rome, Lazio which allowed obtaining sugar from the cane from the large plantations that still today surround the Romana. It should not be forgotten that today, after the tourism, the sugar industry, is the most revenue generated for the population. 

The putting into operation of the sugar mill coincided with the increase in the price of sugar in the whole world, which caused the entrepreneurs need a lot of hand man, many poor families of the interior to Dominican moved to La Romana in search of a better life. At the beginning of 1960, Gulf & Western Industries, Inc. bought the sugar mill and started to invest in the livestock industry. In parallel, invested approximately 20 million dollars to rebuild the Roman as well as in building schools, clinics, houses and other infrastructure for their Dominican workers.

In the middle of the decade of 1970 the American conglomerate Gulf & Western Industries, began to sell their assets Dominicans and at the same time built what today is one of the largest exclusive resorts of the Dominican Republic, Casa de Campo.  One of the inhabitants of La Romana, Hector Castillo Figueroa, who immigrated to Spain in the years 1960-1970, became the first African American edil of Spain, when he was elected, on 3 April 1979 as mayor of the city of Isla Cristina by the party of the UCD.  The fact motivated is that both cities, the Roman and Isla Cristina, hermanaran in the years 1980.

The city of La Romana owes its name to a former Roman Balance of great size that in the sixteenth century served to weigh the goods transiting through the port, was very important at that time and it was owned of a family originating in Rome. La Romana is located an hour and a half west of Punta Cana and an hour and a half to the east of the capital, Santo Domingo, the nearest city is San Pedro de Macoris, half an hour away, and Juan Dolio, approximately forty minutes. La Romana is also very close to Bayahibe, 25 minutes, and is the nearest location to visit the islands of Saona and Catalina.
