In regard to the vegetation is concerned, Jarabacoa account with a variety of trees ranging from pine trees which is the most abundant until ebony and many more. The climate of Jarabacoa is cool, which allows you to take a walk through all the places you want without fatigue. you can do the walk as you want, you can bike riding, horseback riding or just make a walk looking and enjoying the beauty of Jarabacoa. Jarabacoa also has several waterfalls which are there for you to enjoy them.


History of Jarabacoa


   Although many details are unknown, it is likely that Aboriginals lived at times in the valley of Jarabacoa. There is no indication that there were villages or towns fixed, because it was a border area between Los Cacicazgos of Maguá and Maguana, very far from the Taino cultural centers.  The name is composed of the words 'Jaraba' and 'Coa', which means, linking of abundant water resources in the Taina language. On 27 September 1858 Jarabacoa begins its life as a municipality, category obtained following a path that came from the beginning of the nineteenth century.  Jarabacoa had been a territory inhabited by Tainos, who was called in this way (Jarabacoa).  When the arrival of the Spaniards on the island some settled in this place, in search of gold and silver, but then left the area. 

Then gave a process of establishment of massive population as a result of the first Haitian invasions on The Spanish part of the island. In 1854 Jarabacoa is erected as a military post in virtue of its strategic position in the communication between the Cibao and the South.  Had a population of 2,000 inhabitants and many of his men were highlighted as soldiers bright in the deeds for independence, such are the cases of General José Duran and also General Norberto Tiburcio. On 24 March 1861 occurs the pronouncement of the Common one of Jarabacoa, the brigadier general, José Duran commander of weapons of this city, accompanied by the civilian and military personnel with various people in the place, having received from the Lord Liberator President of the Republic Knight Grand Cross of the American Order of Isabel La Catholica.

Pedro Santana gave an account of the order of the Governor of the province for the celebration of the accession of the Republic as a province of the Crown in the person of Isabel II of Spain.  By Royal Order of the Ministry of War Spanish, with date 26 June 1862 creates the Military Command of Jarabacoa, in the time that the Dominican Republic returned to depend on Spain. Years later, already in the restorative time highlighted the general and commander of the Army of the North, Daniel Batista and Rodriguez as hero of the restoration.  Although he was not born in Jarabacoa, was inserted from their arrival in the community of Pedregal, to the best causes of this community breeding offspring family and was integrated in body and soul to the cause of revolution that returned sovereignty to the Dominican Nation. 




Weather in Jarabacoa.


   This locality has a tropical rainy climate; although it is dimmed due to its altitude, some 525 meters above the sea level. Presents an annual average temperature of 22°C (72°F) and abundant rains during almost the entire year. the temperatures have little variation, but in general between March and November the mornings and the nights are pleasant. in the afternoon the temperature is warm and the nights temperate; while between December and February the mornings and the nights the temperature is fresh or slightly cooler, the afternoons are warm and the nights very pleasant.
