Due to its great diversity of agricultural production,
Santiago also produces many minor crops that supply the market in the capital

Santiago is located
in the center of the country; this is why it is also known as LA
CIUDAD CORAZON being to just two
hours from Santo Domingo and 50 minutes from the city of Puerto Plata, both
cities with important ports and airports for the transport of goods and
passengers from and toward the outside. The development of
the industrial Santiago is divided into two which are: The industrial national
production and the industrial sector of textiles and other products which are
composed of free zones, these areas are areas of production for export, are special areas because they are
free of many taxes, this treatment between the government and the
industrialists was done to promote the economic development of the area where
you install these free zones. The Free Zones of Santiago are another very
important economic engine of the city as well of the Dominican Republic, since
it produces 20% of the foreign currency generated by all free zones in the
country.

Santiago is the first in job creation since this for the year 1995 had a total
of 32,000 employees, distributed in 79 textile manufacturing companies, cigars,
shoes, plastics, leather, communications, electrical equipment, among others. Already for the year 1998, this had
