Enjoy NEIBA And its attractive exhibition of grapes and wines

Neiba is the capital of the province of Bahoruco Dominican Republic, is located between the Sierra de Bahoruco to a plateau that comprises a height of 275 meters above sea level. Neiba is known for being the only part of the country devoted to the harvest of grapes and at the same time producer of wine.  Neiba bordered on the south with the Sierra de Bahoruco, to the west it is bordered by the lake Enrriquillo and limits to the east with Tamayo.

Annually in Neiba, is celebrated an important activity, which form part of their culture and customs, called the fair of the grape. In this trade fair are involved all the local producers of grapes and the same activity attend people of several provinces in the Dominican Republic.  As all fair, this is a social event to share information, this activity is held in order that producers give a demonstration of their products while at the same time marketed their products and share with the other producers about your experience with regard to the production of the fruit.

This activity allows both producers, the entrepreneurs which buy grapes either to sell or to manufacture a product derived from the grapes such as juice, wine, jams or any other product,   As well as the consumers, to take a moment to bind to and promote the interest in this wonderful product  and in this way to mobilize the economic of the zone, generating decent incomes also for small producers.

Neiba, has a long way in the production of grapes, this province began its productive activity of grapes in times of colonization. Together with the second voyage of Christopher Columbus to the Americas brought with it after having conquered the region, plants of the Vine.  Seeing Cristobal Colon, that the area was perfect for the planting and harvesting of the fruit is decided to bring from the European continent, the plants to produce grapes, which would be used to produce wines of Her Excellency quality, equal to or, with the same standards of quality as the exquisite Spanish wines.

The production of grapes and wine in the area of Neiba had waned, but at the time of General Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, who was the president for life of the country at that time, made several contributions in 1938, hiring the Doctor Manuel Telles Vasconsello Portuguese who was a specialist in the area,  to initiate a research process of adaptation of some species of grapes to the climate of Neiba, bringing then some 57 different kinds of grapes.

The Sierra de Bahoruco along with Neiba is the fourth tourist pole of the Dominican Republic, when you come by these environs, I am sure you will love the place, because in addition to the landscapes, this area is full of friendly people that will provided to you a welcome with a smile, showing everything you need to know.
