Constanza
Constanza is a small
picturesque village that belongs to the province of La Vega; it is located in
the Cordillera Central of the Dominican Republic, is located approximately
1,500 meters above sea level and is known as the Switzerland of the Caribbean. It is the highest town in the Spanish island,
although the Pico Duarte, in the Cordillera Central is the highest point of the

History of Constanza
Until the mid-twentieth century Constanza
was a valley of low population, the lack of means of communication such as
roads, impeded access to this city, but its isolation did not prevent some

valley in colonial times, when the island was a colony of Spain, and until
there was a settler called Victoriano Velano, who led the first cows and mares

The guerrillas fought in the surrounding mountains and in two months were completely defeated by the army of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, thus putting an end to the rebellion.
Constanza is known to be
one of the coldest cities in the Dominican Republic and throughout the
Caribbean. Its climate is temperate climate Oceanic or Atlantic climate Köppen
climate classification, with cool temperatures and rainfall throughout the
year. The main factors
that affect this temperature are the altitude and the geographical
situation.The city of Konstanz is located at a
height that varies between 1500 meters above sea level, in a valley located
between two solid within the Cordillera Central, while in the whole
municipality the height varies between 1000 meters and the almost 2900 meters
of high.
The annual average temperature of the city is 18.4°C, with a thermal oscillation of just 3.5°C between the coldest month and the warmest month: the average January is 16.3°C and August is 19.8°C. During the greater part of the year, temperatures remain mild or warm during the afternoon, and very fresh during the morning; fluctuate between 12°C and 27°C. The rains occur mainly between July and October with an average of 60 mm per month, during the winter; temperatures are cold in the evenings and pleasant during the day, with temperatures between 8°C and 24°C. Out of the valley of Constanza, it is normal that during the winter the night temperatures fall to 0°C, which favor the frost, in higher elevations, temperatures of the afternoon are fresh in winter and pleasant in summer, while those of the morning and the nights are very cold with occasional frosts in winter and cool in summer.
The record of maximum
temperature is 32.5°C (90.5°F), while the record of minimum temperature is -1°C
(30°F), while within the municipality, the lowest recorded has officially been
-11.5°C (25.7°F) in Valle Nuevo. Constanza is currently, the most cold
