The Enrriquillo lake is one of the largest reserves of the Dominican Republic, this lake has a sufficient width of 270 square kilometers in all its extension, this measure is constantly changing due to the different climatic conditions, so when it rains often grow and increase the ground it occupies, similarly in time of drought when it does not rain enough water or the amount of water that pose the lake decreases.
It is the largest lake of all the Antilles and within its attractions we can find the flora and fauna that owns the lake, taking into its surroundings a variety of animals and plants such as crocodiles, birds, iguanas, among other small animals, This is one of the main tourist destinations of the island of Santo Domingo in the past few years, receiving hundreds of thousands of visitors each year both foreign tourists and people of the Dominican Republic which enjoy immensely from the domestic tourism.
This stunning lake has the quality of that its waters are more salty as those of the sea and in the middle of the lake there is a small island called Cabritos Island which is one of its main attractions, the Cabritos island is a small portion of land surrounded by the waters of the lake Enrriquillo, this island is very visited by all tourists who come to the area to explore and learn a little of the biodivercidad of species that live there as well as excursions are also available from different towns and provinces of the Dominican Republic and people of other countries also come here to enjoy its beauty, take pictures and make field days in the vicinity of the lake.
In terms of the fauna and the flora of the Park National Lake Enrriquillo we can say that one of the species that live there, which draws the attention of the public more visitor and the inhabitants of the area surrounding the lake, are the flamingoes, which leave delighted with their beauty to any lover of animals or birds, also the Iguana Ricordi, which is a species of iguana very exotic and that draw much attention also to persons who arrive there.
Another very popular animal that live there and that needs no introduction is the famous American crocodile which is a protected species even by the same inhabitants which give follow up to the crocodile population to have a control and to help prevent its extinction due to the hunting of this beautiful reptile.
Another attraction that I cannot fail to mention is the pictographs made by indigenous people who lived in the area before the arrival of Europeans in the island of Santo Domingo which date back more than two thousand years old, these are in a cave near the lake itself Enrriquillo.
